Welcome to the Arctic Sea Ice Predictions!

Arctic Sea Ice shapes the weather over the Northern Hemisphere on earth so it is very important for weatherwatchers worldwide to keep an eye on it. This year things have started to go downhill as a matter of course. The presence of High Pressure at mid latitudes leads to a positive arctic oscillation which means that Ice in the Arctic is moved Southwards by Low Pressure systems and the Ice thickness dramatically reduces.

As of March 1st the sea ice extent was the 2nd lowest on record and with a positive oscillation forecast for the coming week it could yet go lowest.

Presently there is nearly is complete Ice coverage over the Sea at the North Pole but Ice is thinner than normal due to a high amount of Southerly winds and temperatures of 3 to 4c above average.

The latest prediction for September 21st which is around the day of minimum sea ice is 4 million. This is lower than average but not the lowest ever. This blog is consistently going to be updated to take account of changes in the Arctic and Arctic Sea Ice so add it to your feeds.
